Over the weekend, Kim and I checked out the TYPros event Street Cred: Polishing the Pearl. For several weeks, volunteers spent Saturdays cleaning up empty buildings in Tulsa’s Pearl District, throwing out trash and gussying up the area, then for the weekend, they asked local businesses to set up pop-up shops in the cleaned up spaces. In addition to the shops and food vendors, they also had musicians, street performers and even a kids area to keep the wee ones occupied. It was a great “what if” scenario for this often overlooked part of town, and we hope to see some of these pop-ups turn permanent! Here are a few shots I took while we perused the Pearl (can you tell I was having fun with Instagram?):

And here are a few images from our friend Briana at Bifftastica. She had a booth in the Indie Emporium shop and was there all weekend to catch the festivities. Check out her Etsy shop as well for all kinds of crafty jewelry goodness!

The weather definitely cooperated Saturday and a good time was had by all. We can’t wait to see this event again next year as they clean up another part of town. Mad props to all the volunteers who made this event a success!
