On My Mind – Home Inspiration

I often find myself daydreaming about architectural details, colors, patterns, roof lines, entry doors, etc. when I’m working. You know, for the house I’ll build someday. So tonight when I got home from work I decided to go through my Inspiration folder. Not Pinterest, but the folder on my desktop that I used for years labeled “inspiration. ”

Here’s  just a smattering of images I had tucked away, but it’s quite interesting how many similarities they have. I think it is a necessary exercise to gather ideas, images, colors, anything that catches your eye really, to learn your own style. Here you can see that I actually do like symmetry, lots of geometric and horizontal, warmth and blue apparently. The first three images are the Shelter Island House by SchappacherWhite Ltd. and it has since made it’s way all over blog land. I was surprised by how many articles including these images popped up when I completed my image search. However, there’s lots to love. See for yourself.

These kitchen images were a surprise with the farmhouse kitchen title. I’m so often drawn to painted cabinetry (have wanted cobalt blue cabinets for years) that I didn’t know I had so much affection for the stained look. The bin pulls are right on though, I have full intentions of installing those in my current kitchen, which just happens to be a deep espresso stained oak! Maybe I’m closer to my dream kitchen than I thought!

Perhaps this could be just beyond that outdoor living area in the first image. I grabbed this image to show my love of natural and organic lines as well. I certainly love the rectangular dark window frames, but without a landscape that I love greeting me on the other side, I’m not sure they would be worth it. As they say, location, location, location. So it will be quite awhile before I actually build a house of my own design. I think I’ll stick to restoring these 1920′s homes I’ve grown so attached to. Or maybe I could find a ranch house to spice things up a bit.
