I suppose I could have titled this post, Happily Hosting House Guests. I’m having an obsession with alliteration these days, and I’m not alone.
But that’s not the point. The point is, we all have the occasional out-of-towner drop by for a visit, and I’m busy this week prepping my home for family to stay this weekend.
It’s been far too long since we’ve had proper house guests, so I’ve been shaping up my guest room and guest bath. But it has been a good time to take inventory on my guest stock — towels, toiletries, bedding, etc.
I want my guest to feel comfortable and at home, but also a bit pampered. It’s not about spending a lot of money, but gathering a few small things — soaps, a cozy new throw, or creating a little welcome basket — to add that special touch.
Although we plan to be out and about in Tulsa all weekend shopping, going to events and eating at restaurants, I want to make at least one home-cooked meal. Why not? It’s an excuse to eat at my dining room table.

This particular guest loves coconut, so I’m definitely making these scrumptious-looking muffins from Smitten Kitchen. Yum! To get the recipe click here.

And if you need a quick, and almost painfully easy dinner idea, I’ve made the Barefoot Contessa’s Weeknight Bolognese several times for my husband and he loves it. Very impressive, and super fast. Click here for the recipe.
Even if you’re not a cook, you can add some personalized touches to your guest room to make your guest feel extra special. They’ll want to set come right back!
