Does anyone else get as excited as I do when this shows up on your TV screen?  I have to admit – I’m enamored with the new Dallas.  It’s a little bit of nostalgia, a little (well, alot) of guilty pleasure, soapy drama from both the veteran and new cast, paired with some smokin’ hot actors – if you haven’t checked it out yet, you should!  This season’s “Who Shot JR?” re-boot after Larry Hagman’s death is fantastic – a perfect nod to the actor with some of the best one-liners around.

The sets are a mix of the old paired with the new, and stark contrasts between the traditional but updated Southfork ranch and the sleek, modern interiors of both the Ewing Energies offices and the homes of the younger cast members.  In addition to the set design, the fashion is swoon-worthy – these ladies rock some fabulous board room attire while catfighting with the men and each other.  (As a side note, I’ve decided to start researching Linda Gray’s beauty regime – at 72 she is unbelievable!)

Here’s a look at some of the interiors, as well as my inspiration from both the traditional and the slick newness of the new sets.

Bourbon and Branch, anyone?

Beetlejuice House: Media Muse

With Halloween getting nearer, I was in the mood for a spookier “Media Muse” this time around.  But not too spooky.  Beetlejuice was always one of my favorite movies as a kid, and I think it might have had something to do with the great house it took place in (they say your career preferences start early, right?!?).  During the movie, you see the house go from this (while Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis are alive):

And I had forgotten the deck!  So horribly fantastic!

As I took a trip down memory lane (I’m on a serious mission to find time to watch this whole movie again soon!), I couldn’t get this dinner party out of my head.  What a great non-pumpkin-ey way to celebrate Halloween.  Enjoy!

Media Muse: Rules of Civility

SVRulesofCivility2 Media Muse: Rules of CivilityRules of Civility by Amor Towles

I recently finished the novel Rules of Civility by Amor Towles, and thought it was the perfect way to kick off a new blog series…Media Muse, where I’ll take inspiration from my favorite books, movies, and yes, TV shows.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the look of the flapper era, and when I heard about this book from a friend, I couldn’t help but be intrigued…

Set in 1930’s New York, Rules of Civility sets the stage with glamour, jazz and of course, martinis.  In addition to the twists and turns of the story, the imagery conjured up throughout the pages makes it a great read.  When the main character, Katey Kontent,  visits the bachelor pad of the mysterious Tinker Grey, she describes a Art Deco style building, but with sleek International Style furnishings, all set off with the perfect accessory, the tragic Evie Ross – ever present in silk, fur and gin.

And to get you a little more in the mood, here’s a recipe for the perfect gin martini.  Curl up with one and dive into this book!
